Christmas Special

20 Dec 2019

If sequins hit the landfill, they will probably never biodegrade

‘Tis the season for sparkly party dresses, snuggly jumpers and festive knits. Unfortunately, that means it is also the season when we spend £220 million on Christmas jumpers only to throw a quarter of them in the bin after the 25th of December. And if sequins hit the landfill, they will probably never biodegrade. But, it is not all doom and gloom! There are plenty of ways to enjoy festive fashion if you go secondhand or to small independent makers with transparent production methods. We took to the streets of Sheffield to shoot a selection of people’s favourite sustainable winter woollies and party outfits. Photos by Tash Bright.
